yesterday we wandered around the first floor of our sweet house, today we're heading upstairs! i'm excited to show you part of the upstairs -- two other important rooms up here are coming soon -- i'm saving ellie's nursery for it's own post & as you know, we're in the midst of working on our master bedroom, so photos of that to come!
as you can see, there is tons of natural light in the upstairs hallway, with giant windows at both ends, which i love! i've also become quite smitten with our guest room & bath (which also happens to be e's bath, hence the whale!).
we snagged this blue antique dresser in pensacola. the prints above it were discovered at one of our favorite norfolk eateries (which sadly has closed!) i fell in love with this print & knew it had a home in this room too. we made the chalkboard frame (super easy/inexpensive DIY!). i recently snagged the sham pillows waaayyyy on sale at west elm & my desk is something i've had since my georgetown apartment. put it all together, & it's our guest room / office / ryan's closet, all in one room!
a quick word on guest rooms -- no matter what your budget is -- here are some basic tips: good sheets go a long way (i recommend having sheets for your master bedroom & guest room on your wedding registry, that way you don't have to splurge). so do good pillows -- i recently replaced the ones in our guest room & even my brother noticed them!! everyone is happier with a good night's sleep. that, a cute bottle of water, some hotel sample toiletries & simple cut flowers can make your guests feel like they're staying a four star hotel! i try to leave a few magazines & a lovely candle too, just for a little extra something. if you do these things, vacuum & empty the trash can before your guests arrive, they will feel right at home.
back soon with bits of our garden! xo
